DBSi Announces the Service Adjustment Option (SAO)

Industry-Unique Feature Enables Client Downgrade of Service Levels and Fees

BETHLEHEM, PA, September 28, 2004 - DBSi, a leading regional provider of comprehensive disaster recovery services, announced today the immediate availability of their Service Adjustment Option (SAOTM) which gives a client the ability to adjust its service levels and corresponding service fees downward within the term of a disaster recovery contract.

DBSi’s SAOtm contractual commitment, believed to be unique in the disaster recovery industry, enables a client to adjust its disaster recovery service level according to changes in its production environment. Of course, a DBSi client can upgrade its service levels at any time; however, the SAOtm supports the downgrade of service levels and corresponding fee reductions of up to ten percent per contract year. This unique flexibility ensures that a client can link its recovery requirements to its actual needs over a multi-year period and reduce the associated fees accordingly.

Legacy disaster recovery service providers offer long-term contracts with fixed recovery service levels and a monthly service fee that often is increased annually despite the fact that services provided remain the same. This outdated approach forces a subscriber whose production environment may be downsized due to virtualization, workload consolidation, or application decommissioning with no alternative but to pay for services not required.

In sharp contrast to the old approach, DBSi clients who downsize their production IT environment can also downsize their DBSi disaster recovery service level with SAOtm. DBSi’s new approach enables their clients to commit to a service level and pay fees at a level they truly require, instead of being forced to pay for services they no longer can use.

Steve King, director of information services for Delbar Products Inc. indicates that “one of our decision making criteria in choosing a new disaster recovery provider was flexibility and DBSi programs such as SAOtm enable Delbar Products to make adjustments to its service levels based upon actual business requirements”.

William Bachenberg, chief executive officer of DBSi, says that “with our implementation of SAOtm, we once again have raised the bar for the industry by offering our clients a unique and pragmatic approach to managing their investment in disaster recovery services. We believe that our focus on client requirements, our contractual flexibility, and wide array of service offerings distinguishes DBSi in the marketplace”.

SAOtm is available immediately, and complements other DBSi contractual commitments such as equal resource access and geographic separation of clients for maximum disaster availability as well as DBSi’s commitment to no annual price increases or forced automatic renewals.
