DBSi Unveils Enhanced Multiple Disaster Protection

Limits subscription in one-kilometer customer geography

BETHLEHEM, PA, August 10, 2004 - DBSi, a provider of comprehensive disaster recovery services, announces that it has significantly enhanced its product offering by affording additional protection for its customers from being impacting in the case of a multiple disaster.

The new DBSi commitment contractually limits the number of companies that subscribe for a specific class and quantity of recovery services in any geographic area. This limitation policy means that for any given customer, no additional contracts for such services will be entered into with any other company within a one (1) kilometer radius of the customer.

Traditional disaster recovery services impose no geographic limits on subscription, and within a corporate office or industrial park, or a high rise office building, there could be dozens of customers contracting for the same recovery equipment. If a disaster, such as a localized power outage or fiber connection cut or flood, affects the office park or multi-tenant building, then all impacted customers would be competing for the same or similar recovery resources. Ultimately, actual recovery operations may be impacted, and such customers may not gain access to equipment or workgroup capability and may have to relocate operations and their affected personnel to a distant location, or could conceivably be shut out from the recovery resources completely.

In contrast, the DBSi approach of geographically limiting subscription to recovery resources reduces or eliminates the likelihood that a multiple disaster will cause any resource contention, and ensures that a customer gains access to the DBSi recovery capability such as server equipment or workgroup resources for which they contract.

John M. Kravitz, senior vice president of information systems for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, states that “we are very pleased with this announcement from DBSi which gives us a much higher level of confidence that we will be able to recovery our operations irrespective of the multiple disaster scenario. It’s also important that our ability to recover not be affected by a disaster impacting a high-rise, as would be the case with other disaster recovery providers”.

William Bachenberg, chief executive officer of DBSi, says that “we believe that our multiple disaster protection, particularly our geographic limits on subscription, is industry unique, and once again demonstrates that DBSi intends to remain the higher availability provider of computer and workgroup disaster recovery services”.

In addition to geographic restrictions on the number of customers contracting for recovery services, DBSi also provides its services on an “equal access” basis, contrasting sharply with the more common “first come first served” approach used by other suppliers.
