DBSi Completes Major Network Upgrades
Achieves premier network resiliency for disaster recovery customers
BETHLEHEM, PA, April 29, 2004 - DBSi, a provider of comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuance services, announced today a substantial enhancement of its network capability. The enhancements to the network significantly increase the performance and add additional layers of redundancy for DBSi’s disaster recovery and high availability clientele.
To secure redundant Internet connectivity and provide bulletproof access for support of high availability applications, DBSi has added both Sprint and PPL Telcom transit, supporting both regional and out-of-region Internet access to tier-one ISPs.
PPL Telcom’s OC-192 directly connects DBSi’s facilities to its Allentown, Bethlehem, Baltimore, Harrisburg, Lancaster, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading, Washington D.C., Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport and York. In addition, DBSi’s high-speed connectivity to Sprint enables fail-safe Internet transit from DBSi’s private network to the Sprint center in Springfield, Massachusetts ensuring accessibility even in the midst of major regional Internet failure. Sprint also adds another Internet connection point for DBSi’s disaster recovery customers with international locations.
DBSi’s network topology includes multiple OC-48, OC-12, and OC-3 SONET rings, enabling continuous network connectivity for its customers irrespective of single or multiple network transit failures. In addition to Sprint and PPL Telcom, DBSi also maintains transit from MCI/UUNet, WilTel Communications, Level3 Communications, and Global Crossing. Regional customers can also utilize Gigabit Ethernet connectivity through DBSi’s presence on the Yipes network. Yipes provides on-demand burstable capability to support high availability applications or for backup in the case of a disaster.
Support for DBSi’s extensive transit infrastructure includes multiple diverse data center entry points, redundant Cisco 6500 switches, and F5 BigIP link controllers for instantaneous ISP failover, load balancing, and bandwidth aggregation.
According to Bill Bachenberg, chief executive officer of DBSi, “we continue to enhance our network capability to enable support of the most demanding customer requirements for disaster recovery and high availability services. Our geographic diversity, dual-homing strategy, multiple transit providers, redundant core and related switch infrastructure, and support of the widest variety of network topologies, provides a level of availability and redundancy which we believe is unique in the region”.
